Each year in early fall, thousands of music lovers from throughout the tri-state and beyond flock to the Hub City to attend this weekend of cool jazz and soul — The Hub City Jazz Festival. Started in 2004, this multi-day, multi-venue jazz music festival, which attracts music lovers from 32 states, is more than just a concert, it's an immersive music festival experience. It's a place to people-watch, eat, drink, shop, mingle, relax, make new friends, and of course hear some of the coolest jazz and soul music on the planet!
The Hub City Jazz Festival, Inc. began in 2004 with modest goals. It was the brainchild of Allen McGriff, a local New Brunswick, NJ entrepreneur and Mason. Originally called the New Brunswick Jazz Festival, it was a fundraiser for the Progressive Temple Lodge. The festival was a two day weekend event featuring local artists including talented high school musicians. After 5 years, the festival outgrew its original venue and its mission’s expanded. The festival moved to downtown New Brunswick increasing its audience and diversifying the range of performers.
Great food, craft brews and cocktails on tap cover the basic amenities. At night, the music moves into restaurant music venues within easy walking distance. The special Jazz Around Town late night performances often present memorable collaborations and up-close viewing of the artists in their element.
